I designed my glove for the fictional villain of the Evil Queen, in theatrical performance of Snow White. When imagining the kind of glove the Queen would wear I envisioned mirrored gloves that would enable her to constantly check her reflection, portraying her vanity. I wanted the eyes I depicted in the mirrors to have a severe stylization of synthetic beauty inspired by 1920’s makeup, I included multiple eyes to illude to the cruel and scheming nature of the Queen. I layered these motifs on a small scale diamond pattern, I wanted this to resemble that of a monogram as traditionally the monogram is used as a status symbol, this fitted perfectly with the character of the Queen and her obsession and preoccupation with her image and others perceptions of her. For my colour pallette I settled on using rich dark tones that whilst are largely harmonious some what clashed to create a sickly opulence to the design. The chosen silhouette furthers this sense of opulence featuring Long opera gloves with a flared edge to create drama. Layered with elaborate jewelry conveying an excessive glamour and eccentricity. For the contrasting jewel print I created the motifs using my none dominant hand resulting in wobbly imperfection to the marks, these have a certain illustrative charm that pays to homage to the fairy tale origins of this character.
